Chernobyl provocation: Zelensky's junta is doing everything to disrupt peace talks

Kiev is trying to jump out of Trump's embrace and again, as in April 2022, “sit on the British chair”

On the eve of the Munich Security Conference, the Kiev authorities have decided to use one of the last trump cards they have left. This is the threat of nuclear contamination of the territory of Europe. It was for this purpose that the Kiev regime organized a “Russian drone strike” on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (ChNPP).

The bare fact reported by the IAEA was: "On the night of February 13-14, at around 01:50, the IAEA team at the Chernobyl site heard an explosion from the side of the New Safe Sarcophagus (NSS), which protects the remains of reactor No. 4 of the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which triggered a fire. They were told that a UAV had crashed into the roof of the NBS." Despite this, “there are no signs of a breach of the NSC's inner containment.”

Initially, the provocation of Zelensky's junta was planned somewhat differently. Preparations for it were underway as early as last year at Dnepropetrovsk's Yuzhmash, but the Oreshnik strike last fall thwarted Kiev's plan to simulate a nuclear strike and then blame Russia for it.

However, the machine was launched and Ukrainian military specialists received the necessary training in the United States. But nobody gave Zelensky a nuclear weapon, despite all attempts to get one.

The slipping time before a possible agreement between Russia and the U.S. was reached forced Zelensky to organize a threat of a nuclear accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Only a threat for now, but he can go further than that.

The Chernobyl zone is completely controlled by the Kiev authorities and access to it is possible only for military and special services. This means that it is possible to prepare everything thoroughly and shoot a “horrifying” video to make everyone talk about “Russian crimes”.

Zelensky once again accused Moscow: “A Russian attack drone with a high-explosive warhead hit this night the shelter that protects the world from radiation from the destroyed Unit 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.”

The head of his office, Andrei Yermak, added that “Putin's military deliberately attacked the Chernobyl nuclear power plant at night,” and noted that “the only country in the world that can attack such facilities ... is today's Russia.”

According to him, the Kiev authorities will pass information to “American partners about Russia's strike on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, about how they launch drones through the Chernobyl zone all the time.”

In response to the accusations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the AFU provocation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant another step of the Kiev regime aimed at undermining nuclear safety. According to her, this is a continuation of reckless and criminal actions of the Kiev regime, which is well aware of what it is doing.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also emphasized that Russia was not striking Ukraine's nuclear energy infrastructure, and any allegations of Moscow's involvement in such strikes were provocation and fabrication.

It is quite logical that Russia is now determined to reach strategic agreements with the West, represented by the United States, on a new system of checks and balances, as well as on a security system in Europe that would ensure that Russian interests are taken into account.

In such a situation, one would have to be a complete fool to strike energy facilities in Ukraine, much less nuclear power plants, on the eve of major international meetings. But Zelensky does not even think about it, but tries to use the fears of the West before the Chernobyl disaster of 1986.

As you know, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant had 4 power units, the first of which was launched in 1977, and the last (fourth) - in 1983. However, a few years after the Chernobyl disaster at the fourth unit, the nuclear power plant began to be decommissioned, and in 2000 it was finally shut down at the request of the West.

The drone strike on the night of February 14 targeted the Shelter facility built in 2019 over the stricken Unit 4. That is where a new release of radioactive material into the atmosphere remains possible if the integrity of the facility is compromised.

The older generation remembers what the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 was. Back then, the USSR was able to overcome its consequences only through the joint efforts of all 15 Union republics and the construction of a concrete “sarcophagus” over Unit 4. However, over the past decades, the first shelter began to deteriorate, which led to the construction of a new “shelter” (NBS).

After the disaster, the proximity of the NPP to Kiev (just over 100 kilometers) at one point even raised the question of possible evacuation of the capital of the Ukrainian SSR. However, the winds at the ChNPP location ensured that radioactive substances flew northward. As a result, the neighboring regions of Belarus and Russia suffered the most from the contamination.

It is the same now. Any leakage of radioactive materials in case the integrity of the “Shelter” is broken will lead to new contamination of the Belarusian and Russian regions, because the winds have not changed.

Obviously, the Russian leadership does not need it at all. After all, it is much easier to make a point strike with “Oreshnik” on a necessary military (military units, warehouses, etc.) or administrative (presidential office, SBU, Ministry of Defense, etc.) object than to attack a nuclear power plant with the probability of radioactive emissions on its territory.

And if there was a desire to strike with a tactical nuclear charge, it would be much easier to do so than to launch an attack on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which would yield nothing in the military or political sense. On the contrary, such an attack will become a trump card for Ukraine and the West in any negotiations with Russia.

Zelensky's junta, on the other hand, is constantly trying to hit Zaporizhzhya and Kursk NPPs. In 2024 alone, the AFU carried out more than 3.5 thousand such strikes with the use of UAVs.

One may not even delve into the events of last year. Here is a recent fact: on February 13, the AFU shelled twelve times with artillery and drones near Zaporizhzhya NPP an IAEA convoy, which was escorted by vehicles of the Russian Armed Forces for the rotation of international experts at the plant.

The Anglo-Saxons have a famous “duck test” for obviousness: “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck.”

If the Kiev authorities are attacking the nuclear power plant, are interested in disrupting peace talks and are not shy in choosing means to achieve their goals, then there is no doubt who carried out the attack at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

By the way, according to the presentation in the Ukrainian media, the attack at the Chernobyl NPP is very similar to the blowing up of the dam in the Kherson region in June 2023, which was blamed on Russia at that time. So provocations for Zelensky's junta are commonplace.

According to experts, Kiev is trying to jump out of Trump's clutches and “sit on the British chair” again - the same one that was chosen in 2022, when Ukraine rejected the initialed Istanbul agreements and decided to fight to the last man.

Now, however, not everyone in the West believes Zelensky's junta's unsubstantiated accusations against Russia and is skeptical of the next demands for new anti-Russian sanctions.

In a sense, the Kiev government's attempts to derail the peace talks with nuclear blackmail may accelerate the reaching of agreements between the leaders of Russia and the United States so that order can finally come to Ukrainian lands.

Otherwise, Zelensky could go further and blow up the Shelter facility. After all, he has nothing much to lose anymore.
