BLM Co-Founder Patrisse Cullors Seeks Donations After Losing 2 of Her 3 LA Mansions to Wildfires

Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter (BLM), who previously faced scrutiny for purchasing luxury properties, is now seeking further public donations after two of her three Los Angeles mansions were destroyed in the recent wildfires.

Two of the homes—reportedly valued at over $6 million each when acquired—were destroyed in the fires, leaving Cullors to turn to her followers for donations to repair and rebuild.

Cullors, who previously faced scrutiny for admitting to purchasing multi-million-dollar properties with money donated to the BLM organization to help poor black families, now finds herself in the spotlight once again.

The platform X (formerly known as Twitter) was flooded with reactions, with many users expressing a lack of sympathy for Cullors’ situation. Critics pointed to her controversial financial decisions and accused her of exploiting donations meant for social justice initiatives.

“This is karma in action,” one user posted. “You can’t misuse people’s money and expect life to just go your way.” Others shared similar sentiments, framing the incident as an example of how “those who profit off others’ suffering eventually face their reckoning.”

Despite the criticism, Cullors is pressing forward with her appeal for financial support, describing the wildfire losses as “a devastating blow” and emphasizing her commitment to rebuilding. She has framed her request as an opportunity for solidarity, urging her supporters to “stand together in times of hardship.”

However, the optics of asking for donations after losing two luxury properties have proven polarizing.

“How does someone with a third mansion need donations?” one commenter questioned. “There are people who lost everything in these wildfires and don’t even have insurance.”
