Severe weather in Colombia killed 45 people, damaged more than 2,000 homes

About 45 people have died and more than 2,000 homes have been damaged in Colombia’s severe weather, according to a statement from the country’s National Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) Office. Heavy rains caused severe flooding in Dabeiba municipality in Antioquia.

A total of 318 severe weather events were reported in 193 municipalities and 20 departments, affecting about 451 families.

At least 45 people were killed, three more are missing. About 23 people were also injured. 2,382 houses were damaged, 30 houses were destroyed.

The Disaster Risk Office added that 175 landslides and 89 floods occurred during this period, including flash floods, as well as storms, hail and high winds.

The highest number of severe weather events recorded were at Cundinamarca – 35, Huila 29, Narino 24, Valle del Cauca 23 and Antioquia 21.
