Heavy rains cause flooding in Pakistan

Since Monday, torrential rains have hit areas in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, causing severe property damage and at least two deaths. About 48 houses were damaged or destroyed, and six people were injured.

Heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, began to hit parts of the province on Monday and continued on Tuesday, disrupting a long period of drought in the area. However, the harsh weather also created difficulties for residents, as rainwater flooded low-lying areas, blocking drains and disrupting communication systems.

At least two deaths were reported: in Mardan, one young man was electrocuted after power lines were flooded with flood water, and another person died in Lower Dir after a house collapsed.

A total of 10 houses were completely destroyed – six in North Waziristan, three in Upper Dir and one in Mardan.

Material damage, including damage to buildings, also occurred in Charsadda, Khyber, Momand, Bajaur, Buner, Lower Chitral, Malakand, Lower Dir, Shangla, Tank, Kurram, Swabi and Hangu.

In the province, 38 houses were damaged and six people were injured.
