A huge coronal hole formed on the Sun

A large coronal hole is now located at the equator of the star and is directed directly to the Earth. The arrival of the solar wind is expected on July 04-05, 2019.

Coronal holes have a lower plasma density and temperature than the environment and are not visible in the optical spectrum (with a human eye). Here, the magnetic field lines are opened and can no longer hold the high-energy and high-speed solar wind, which, depending on the speed and interacting with the Earth’s magnetic field, can cause its disturbances and auroras of varying degrees of intensity.
