The powerful explosion, which thundered at night in the crater of the Hawaiian volcano Kilauea, can mark the beginning of a new destructive phase of the eruption. This warning was spread by the US Geological Survey. According to experts, the level of lava is falling and if it is below the critical mark, water can begin to flow into the heated lake. This threatens to explode.
With this development of events, clumps weighing up to 12 tons will be scattered from the crater for hundreds of meters, and powerful outbursts of ash and volcanic rocks will threaten settlements within a radius of several kilometers from the crater.
Earlier, from the area of the eruption of the volcano Kilauea were evacuated approx. 2000 people. Lava destroyed several dozen houses.
