The islands of Mauritius and Reunion suffered from the tropical cyclone “Fakir”

The tropical cyclone Fakir, formed on April 23 in the southwestern Indian Ocean to the north-north-east of Madagascar, passed the Reunion Islands (the overseas region of France) and Mauritius, where storm warnings were issued.

On Mauritius on Tuesday, April 24, the storm brought winds at speeds of up to 112 km / h, heavy showers and waves of up to 5 meters. More than 100 mm of precipitation fell within 24 hours in Riche-en-Eu (105 mm), Providence (103 mm) and Mont-Bois (102 mm).
Electricity was interrupted in some places, and some flights were canceled or delayed. Cyclone warnings have already been canceled, but warnings of storm surges and high waves are still in place in some areas.
In Reunion, two people were killed as a result of a landslide caused by heavy rain in L’Etan-Sale. Local authorities said that the storm caused serious damage to the island’s road network. In connection with the arrival of the elements, schools were closed.

In Le Baril within 24 hours more than 400 mm of precipitation fell. More than 300 mm of rain fell in places. Significantly increased water levels in rivers.
As of April 24, the cyclone was about 240 km south of Suiyaka, the southernmost point of the main island of Mauritius.
