An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on Monday morning scared the
inhabitants of the western part of France. There were no reports of
casualties and destruction.
The epicenter of seismic activity was located near the town of Saint-Hilaire de Vust in the department of Vendée. Residents of this area were excited. According to reports, tremors were felt even in the city of Poitiers, located 100 kilometers from the epicenter.
Earthquakes in the west of France, especially in Brittany, – a frequent phenomenon, but usually they are not so strong. The most powerful earthquake with a magnitude of about 5.0 was recorded on the island of Oleron in September 1972.
