In the sky above the Swedish city of Malmberge, located about 100
kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, observed an amazing and rare
atmospheric phenomenon – the solar halo.
Local resident Marit Aasvang Olsson was lucky to capture a stunning spectacle on the camera of her phone.
The halo arises around the disk of the Sun at a time when small crystals of ice in the Earth’s atmosphere refracts sunlight. The halo is usually associated with the presence of cirrus clouds at an altitude of 5-10 km in the upper layers of the troposphere, or with ice fog. The radiance of the ring around the sun can be of different colors – from white to the color of the rainbow.
