One of the most intriguing personalities in Irish mythology is Fintan Mac Bohra, who is considered the first person to appear in Ireland, where he sailed on the ark fleeing the Great Flood and lived there for 5000 years.
His relationship with the granddaughter of the Biblical Noah, a story about how he escaped the Great Flood and went to the land of fate known as “Inis File”, that is, Ireland are breathtaking legends from the past.
According to the book of Lebhara Gabhala (The Invasion Book is also called The Book of Conquest), Fintan Mac Bohra, also known as the Wise, was a visionary who was married to Lady Cesair.
When Cesair was a young girl, then she was 10 years old, an Egyptian priest warned her about the impending catastrophe. He told her to gather a group of women and try to escape. Cesair built three arks and filled them with women who had different skills.
Her father Beat came along with two other men, but they were not allowed to enter the ark if they did not recognize Cesair as their leader. They did it, and they were let into the ark.
In the poem, Fintan describes how he survived the Flood, when all the others died, hiding on the hill of Tuntinnah near the Shannon River. They sailed and sailed for 7 years before they reached Ireland, which at that time was deserted. It was 2361 BC in accordance with the Chronicles of the Four Masters, but only one ark survived an epic journey in which there were fifty women and three men. Among the survivors was Fintan Mac Bohra.
Upon arrival in Ireland, the women were divided into three groups. Each of the groups took one of the men to populate the new country, which has now become their homeland.

They also took the sheep that they brought with them. This is a story about how the first sheep reached Ireland. Lady Cesair was with Fintan Mack Bochra, and over time she became a great warrior woman.
Like many Irish myths and legends, Fintan Mac Bohra ascribes the ability to change his body at will. According to ancient stories, he could turn into a one-eyed salmon, eagle and hawk, before resuming his own form. Nevertheless, the most perplexing aspect of his story is related to the length of his life. It was said that he lived 5000 years before he left the people’s kingdom.
His life expectancy made him a very wise man. He saw the historical events of old Ireland, and he used his knowledge to advise the kings of Ireland. He helped King Fielbol Eochaid Mac Eric when Tuatha de Dannan attacked, and also fought in the first battle at Moytura. Only after the appearance of St. Patrick and Christianity in Ireland did Fintan leave this mortal realm.
The legend of Fintan Mac Bohra, sounds truly incredible, and it would be easy to discard it as a work of fiction, but we often saw that many ancient myths contain vital historical fragments of truth.
