The UN’s regional health organization has informed Canada that it “no longer holds measles elimination status,” Ottawa said Monday, a major setback due to a year-long outbreak fueled largely by vaccine scepticism.

Canada’s federal health agency said it has been notified by the Pan American Health Organization that Canada lost its status as a country that had eradicated measles due to “transmission of the same measles virus strain in Canada for a period of more than one year.”
