Parker’s family visited the Paragon Casino Resort to celebrate. Everything was fine until they prepared to leave.
“I saw DJ sitting by the pool with his feet in the pool, and I was kind of okay with it because D.J. he’s scared of water, so he’s not going to just jump in the water,” Parker said. But in an instant, her son was lifeless.
Panic set in, but Parker acted quickly. “We just started screaming, God’s name first… something told me to wait, let’s do CPR. Let’s try to revive him… I’m just praying. God please call your angels. Cover them with my son Lord in the name of Jesus. Lord, cover my baby with your blood in the name of Jesus, Lord, please give me my baby back,” she recalled.
As she performed CPR, her husband (DJ’s stepfather) helped with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
“While I’m pumping his body, water is just flowing out my baby’s mouth… He’s gone. I’m pumping some more… somebody said pump his stomach, and he just threw up water… started crying,” Parker said. Paramedics arrived, confirming DJ’s oxygen was at a safe 95.
At Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital, DJ told nurses he had seen heaven. “He said, ‘No, Daddy, no momma. God is real. I saw him. I saw him and uncle Quimaine,’” Parker shared.
The experience strengthened her family’s faith. “His story is just so real. Only he can explain it,” she said.
DJ eagerly described his vision, saying God told him he had “one more life.” He heard angels singing and saw clouds, inspiring him to change his name to Avir (Hebrew for air).
“Why do you want to name yourself after the air? And he was with God in the air,” his mother explained.
Parker urges parents to learn CPR and prioritize water safety. “Anything can happen in a second. My son didn’t have a life vest on, and I regret that… Safety first.”
She also shared a powerful message: “God is real… All this dividing, all this hate. We need to love one another… Get closer to God, you seek him, you shall receive.”
Miraculously, DJ suffered no brain, heart, or lung damage—just a little water in his lungs.
