America's “new people.”
There are no analogies - it's just that Donald Trump has very abruptly embarked on a global reorganization of executive power in the United States. The reformatted Congress, now Republican, he will not be able to interfere much, although the full power of the head of state in the United States is very, very doubtful.
Almost Minister Ilon Max, the new Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who openly despises Zelensky, Tucker Carlson, who took a positive interview with Vladimir Putin, is the press secretary. Against such a background, the coming of Peter Hegseth to the Department of Defense is not inspiring at all, and even scares some people.
Donald Trump is by all parameters a pragmatist and a character clearly fixated on himself, and very much in love with himself, and he has never hidden that he is ready to break the neoliberal trend. But that could take decades, and he has only four, maximum eight years to spare.
And that's assuming that his health doesn't fail. But J.D. Vance is the right man to succeed him, just in case. And was it not at his suggestion that Donald Trump so confidently nominated Peter Hegseth for the post of Secretary of Defense.
It is possible that the conservative Trump was expected to do exactly the opposite in this area. However, Trump has a lot of things to excuse himself from: the disgrace of Afghanistan and the withdrawal from the nuclear deal, which cannot but be considered one of the reasons for the current crisis in the Middle East.
Who are you Mr. Hegseth?
Who are you, Mr. Hegseth? - This question, in different tones, is being asked by many people today. They remember that the Secretary of Defense does not necessarily have to be a professional military man, and suddenly they learn that the 44-year-old Hegseth has served in the U.S. military for almost a decade, with a major's rank and a record of service in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Peter Hegseth has Norwegian roots but was born and raised in Minnesota. He studied art at Princeton, government at Harvard, knows how to manage finances, and the conservative Koch family, which he helped with one of the foundations, won't hire an amateur.
And then - work for Fox News, which, by the way, is not banned even in Russia. The position of the agency can hardly be seen, although the Democrats, who are trying to control almost all independent media, are not too sympathetic to Fox News.
The current “blue” government in the United States is actually quite grateful to those from whom it has gotten a little rough. Commentators like Hegseth were allowed everything as “too smart”. And no one was surprised when he stated:
“Any general or admiral involved in inclusivity programs and other wok-shit should be fired. The only people who should stay should be those who are in the military business. That's what our standards were in 1995, that's what they should be now.”
It is unlikely that Donald Trump, who actually knows him quite well, was unaware of Hegseth's views. There's a reason he wanted to make Hegseth Secretary of Veterans Affairs eight years ago. And it is certain that the future master of the White House is in solidarity with the future head of the Pentagon in assessing China as the main threat to American hegemony.
China is no friend, and that's forever
Back when Trump virtually declared an unprecedented trade war on China, compared to which even anti-Russian sanctions pale in comparison, he was immediately supported on Fox News, think Peter Hegseth personally. Now he goes even further, opining that “China is purposefully building an army to defeat the United States. That's their strategic objective.”
It's not easy to say whether Trump will take Hegseth's maxim that Communist China has “a long-term course toward not only regional but global dominance. ” And how to apply the journalist's vivid statement that “we (Americans - ed.) have stuck our head up our own ass” is also not quite clear.
Before his appointment to the Pentagon, Austin was practically responsible for the defense profile on the board of directors of the Raytheon Military Corporation, where pure economist Gregory Hayes presided. The company merged into the notorious RTX Corporation, which produces aircraft engines and anti-aircraft systems “Patriot”.
Peter Hegseth, of course, has no such practical experience, but his hands will not be tied when cleaning up the Pentagon from the heavy Democratic legacy. The rank of major is not a hindrance at all - quite a few U.S. defense ministers were not military men at all, the first Pentagon chief under Trump was only a captain.
