In a shocking incident early Friday morning, a police station in Linz am Rhein was targeted in a machete attack by a 29-year-old Albanian, raising alarms about radical Islamist motivations. As the assailant shouted “Allahu Akbar,” he was met with a crucial security gate that prevented what could have been a tragic loss of life. Investigators have since uncovered evidence linking the attack to extremist ideologies, including the discovery of an Islamic State flag in the suspect's home. This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by radicalization within European communities.
Junge Freiheit: The armed attack on a police
station in Linz am Rhein apparently has an Islamist background. A
29-year-old Albanian stormed the station with a machete and shouted
"Allahu Akbar". Only a security gate saved the police from a possible
bloodbath.
Koblenz - After the failed attack on a
police station in Linz am Rhein, investigators have discovered evidence
of a radical Islamist motivation. A 29-year-old Albanian stormed the
police station in the Rhineland-Palatinate city on Friday at 2:40 a.m.
with a machete and shouted "Allahu Akbar," the Koblenz public
prosecutor's office said .
"During the ongoing search of the
apartment, a flag of the terrorist organization abroad, 'Islamic State',
was found drawn on a wall." The State Central Office for Combating
Terrorism and Extremism took over the investigation "on the grounds of
attempted murder by attack with a machete."
Gate saves police officer’s life
Apparently,
the attempted murder of the migrant on Friday morning was only
prevented by a security checkpoint. The 29-year-old stormed the station
and threatened to "kill the colleagues at the police station," police
spokesman Jürgen Fachinger said.
However, only the first of the
two doors opened. The officers had to open the second one by pressing a
button. And they didn't do that. On the contrary: they also closed the
first gate in this way, so that the attacker was caught between the two
doors.
SEK overpowers machete-wielding Albanian
All
appeals by the officers over the intercom to explain to the attacker
his hopeless situation were of no use. The migrant continued to make
violent threats and was extremely aggressive.
The Linz police
then called the special forces from Koblenz for help. The special unit
stormed the security gate two hours later. They incapacitated the
migrant with a taser and arrested him. The Albanian was slightly
injured, the police spokesman said. The Koblenz district court issued an
arrest warrant.
