Discovery in the Kurgan region: archaeologists discovered the burial of an ancient civilization

Archaeologists from Kurgan State University have discovered and examined a burial on the bank of the Alabuga River in Zverinogolovsky district of Kurgan region, which dates back to the IV-III centuries BC. This is the only known monument of this period with stone structures in the region.

Scientists suggest that the monument may be related to the Sarmatian presence. The Sarmatians were one of the most significant peoples of the Steppe, who flourished during the ancient and medieval periods. Their culture and art had a significant impact on the development of Europe and Asia.

Archaeologists have now completed the fieldwork, but continue their research in the laboratory. Specialists were involved to help them. On the monument soil studies were conducted, the necessary ground samples were taken, wood samples were collected. In the future, anthropologists and zoologists will also study the found bones.

Archaeological works are organized by archeological laboratory of KSU and the Kurgan regional museum association. They will provide new data on the life of ancient civilizations, their culture and way of life.
