Heavy rains cause deadly floods in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire


At least four people were killed and several injured after heavy rain caused flooding and serious property damage in parts of the city of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in West Africa.

Heavy rain caused buildings to collapse and flooding and landslides in several parts of the city. Roads were blocked and cars were stuck in floodwaters. Pictures posted on social media show broken cars and damaged homes.

The municipalities of Jopugon, Attecube, Abobo and Ajame were the most affected. GSPM firefighters helped rescue or evacuate people from flooded and damaged buildings.
