Sea turtles along the Florida coast from Jacksonville to Brevard are getting sick, and wildlife experts are working hard to find out why.
Turtles, primarily green sea turtles, have increasingly come ashore from the ocean and lagoons over the past few weeks.
According to Shannon Gunn of the Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Treatment Center, they are taken to the Brevard Zoo and specialized turtle rehabilitation centers in Florida.
“There is no one specific disease. Most of them come out of the ocean and exhibit lethargy and low glucose levels, ”she said Wednesday. “This is not a consequence of injury or parasites. we do not know what it is. ”
