Heavy rains cause flooding in Congo

Heavy rains caused severe flooding in the city of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), and Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of the Congo, also known as the Congo-Brazzaville.

As of March 17, 2021, local media reported evacuations in areas close to the Cieme River in Brazzaville after floodwater flooded homes. The flooding also caused serious traffic problems in the city.

Local media in DR Congo reported that flooding killed 4 children and demolished several houses in Kisenso municipality in eastern Kinshasa.

The N’Djili Bridge collapsed, causing serious transport problems, in particular to and from N’Djili International Airport. The collapse of the bridge cut off some communities in the Canggu area from the rest of the city.
