Heavy rains in Hawaii led to a breakthrough of a dam on the island of Maui.
Maui County reported that a breach of the Kaupakalua Dam near Haiku was reported on the afternoon of March 8, 2021.
“An emergency evacuation has been announced for everyone downstream of the reservoir dam in the Makai area of the Haiku district on Kaupakalua Road. advised to immediately evacuate or look for a hill. “Evacuation points are open in local public buildings.
The Maui Fire Department said it received more than a dozen calls for help from residents trapped in their homes by rising flood waters.
