Dead whale dumped on a beach in Rhode Island


A carcass of a young minke whale washed ashore in Rhode Island.

Biologists from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Protection have identified the species as a young northern or minke whale.

Minke whale, Sharp whale, Keith Minke – a species of whales from the minke family. Whalers call it the Norwegian name “minke”. Earlier, together with the southern minke whale, it was considered as part of a single species Minke whale.
