In April 2020, a record amount of snow fell in some areas of Northern and Central Finland, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). Most snow was recorded in Palyakka and Sodankyla in Lapland, where up to 1.25 m of snow was recorded.
In Sodonkail, the Tahtela meteorological station saw 1.25 meters on April 14, breaking the previous record of 1.19 meters, set on April 6, 2000.
This was the second record figure that the station recorded for two consecutive days. On April 13, Takhtela recorded 1.22 m.
