An Impressive Video Shows All The Earthquakes That Struck Alaska Between 1918 And 2019

The video shows all the earthquakes that occurred over Alaska between 1918 and 2019, over the past hundred years.

Alaska and its Aleutian Islands lie above the border of the tectonic plate, called the “subduction zone”, where the Pacific plate grates under the North American plate.

This type of plate boundary can create volcanoes, such as those that make up the Aleutian Islands, which extend from Kamchatka, Russia to the Alaska Peninsula.

Subduction zones can also cause mega-earthquakes with large vertical movements that cause devastating tsunamis.
