Police detain the man in Kampong Cham. Campost
|
Major Chun Bopha, Koh Sotin district deputy police chief, yesterday identified the man as Run Reach, 24, a farmer living in the district’s Kampong Reap commune.
He said that at about 5pm on Saturday, Mr Reach became drunk on a bottle of wine while his parents were away.
“After he became drunk, he seemed to have supernatural strength and caught his three dogs and killed them by sucking their blood,” Maj Bopha said. “He kept sucking their blood while they were still alive.”
“After killing his dogs, he caught a pregnant hen and a female cat in the house and also sucked their blood and killed them,” he added.
Maj Bopha noted that after killing the animals, Mr Reach went to sleep and his parents returned to see him looking like a “fierce ghost”.

Maj Bopha noted that the mother reported him to police the next day and Mr Reach was arrested at about 10am.
He said that after his arrest, the mother asked police to take him to the chief monk in the village to be exorcised.
District police chief Colonel Im Khoeun yesterday said that after the monk threw some holy water on him, Mr Reach started acting normal.
“According to the Buddhist monk, he sucked the blood of the animals because he was possessed by a ghost,” he said. “The ghost made him cruel and drove him to drink the animals’ blood while they were alive.”
Col Khoeun noted that Mr Reach was not detained or charged because he did not harm any villager, only his own animals.
He added that the man is still staying at the pagoda for further cleansing rituals.
