In March-April 2010, the sky over part of Europe was closed. The powerful eruption of the volcano Eyjafjadlayekudl led to the release of a huge amount of volcanic ash, which led to the closure of airports in London, Oslo and Copenhagen. Now Iceland is preparing a new gift for the continent: the eruption of Catla volcano can become even more ambitious than the events of 2010.
Interestingly, the eruption of Catley scientists predicted a long time ago. As early as 2016 and 2017, researchers measured the level of carbon dioxide near the volcano. As it turned out, Katla allocated from 12,000 to 24,000 tons of CO2 per day – several times more than all the other volcanoes in Iceland combined. According to scientists, this indicates an impending eruption.
This event can lead to far more serious consequences than the eruption of 2010. It is believed that in 882 exactly the eruption of Catley led to a three-year cooling in Europe and the subsequent famine throughout the continent. The proximity of the cataclysm is confirmed by another regularity: at least three of the eruptions of Cutla were preceded by the eruptions of Eyyafyadlayekudl: scientists believe that it can be a kind of trigger mechanism for the eruptions of a neighbor.
