“Portuguese boats” on the beaches of Mumbai injured more than a hundred vacationers

At least 150 people on the beaches of Mumbai received burns while swimming in the sea because of contact with toxic fisalia, also called the “Portuguese boat”.

Physalia can not move independently, in the monsoon rainy season, they bring currents and tides to the shores of India. According to local traders, in recent days, poisonous organisms literally flooded the beaches. The injured were washed the place of the burn with lemon juice and recommended not to swim in the sea yet.

The burn from contact with the physiological appearance is similar to the jellyfish sting and causes severe pain that does not pass for several hours. The poisonous substance that the animal secrete for self-defense is not fatal to humans, except in rare cases of an individual allergic reaction.
