In Ecuador, the activity of the volcano Reventador increases

Activity of the volcano Reventador (3,560 meters high), which is located 90 km from Quito, Ecuador, is increasing. The volume of ash and lapilli emission increases, accompanied by a 500-meter-high steam column.

Reventador is one of the three volcanoes currently operating in the country together with the Chiles-Serra Negro and the Sierra Negra. Since May last year the polynomial supported “high eruptive activity”, but did not cause any damage, especially serious.

The last major eruption is from October to November 2002. A million tons of ash fell on the capital, reducing visibility and covering roads and buildings.
