UN calls on all to give up plastic

“If you can refuse – refuse”: under this motto came the UN report on the fight against plastic waste. Despite all the measures that individual governments are taking to combat this scourge, plastic is not getting smaller. Only one-time plastic bags in the world produce about 5 billion a year – if they are laid out, they can completely cover the territory of Spain and France. And for processing, only 10% of the entire plastic packaging goes.
In the war against plastic there are positive trends. 60 states around the world have introduced a full or partial ban on the use of plastic packaging. Among them are developed states (for example, Belgium and Canada) and some developing countries. In Kenya, Cameroon, South Africa and Bangladesh in general, steeply set to work: for the production and sale of certain types of plastic products, you can clap even a prison term. England, France, Germany and Denmark, for example, are trying to gradually give up plastic, imposing limits and additional duties on the use of plastic packaging. So in these countries stimulate a smooth transition to more environmentally friendly materials.
In those states where the problem with plastics is not solved at the governmental level, ordinary people take control of the situation. Residents of the Scottish village of Ullapool “released” it from plastic tubes for drinks, and in Greece, about a hundred coffee houses under the influence of volunteers agreed to make a discount to those who come for coffee with their cup.
However, the amount of plastic on the planet is still growing. The main culprits for this remain the United States, China and Japan. The UN believes that most of the world’s governments are not doing enough to combat the “plague plague,” and calls on all states to impose restrictions on the production and sale of plastic – up to a complete ban.
