Norwegian scientists from the Institute of Marine Research discovered sharp climate changes in the northern part of the Barents Sea.

In the publication, in particular, it is noted that the northern part of the Barents Sea loses the signs of the Arctic Sea, which means it can become part of the Atlantic climate system.

Such a change threatens to catastrophe for the local ecosystem in which animals dependent on ice cover live and commercial fishing is carried out.

The process, according to scientists, is associated with a violation of the stratification of water layers due to a decrease in the amount of fresh water entering the sea during the melting of ice.
