The European Space Agency (ESA) published the first images
transmitted by the Earth remote sensing satellite Sentinel-3B
(Sentinel-3B). Sentinel-3 is a family of ESA satellites created in the
framework of the GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security)
project of the European space program Copernicus. The Sentinel-3B will
be used to collect remote sensing data from the oceans, sea ice and
coastal zones. Experts assess the quality of the images as very high.
The Sentinel-3B spacecraft was launched aboard the Russian rocket Rokot at the end of April this year. All the stages of the flight program passed normally, the satellite went into the calculated orbit.
