Three people, including tourists from New Delhi and Mumbai,
died in the Indian state of Uttarakhand because of snowfall. Hundreds of
pilgrims found themselves in a snow captivity on the picturesque hills
of the village of Kedarnath.
The authorities of Uttarakhand reported that 52-year-old Sudama Singh from Mumbai and 61-year-old Dzhanki Devi from New Delhi were killed because of heart attacks. Another person – the Nepalese conductor – died under the rubble of an avalanche.
After the snowfall, about 4,200 pilgrims on the Kedarnath trail moved to the village of Gaurikund, the starting point on the way to the sanctuary in the town of Rudraprayag. About 400 people decided to stay in Kedarnath.
In Kedarnath, 12.7 cm of snowfall fell, which resulted in the disruption of the helicopter service and the movement of the pilgrims.
