Know The Foods That Favor Colon Cancer

New research published in the journal JAMA Oncology reveals that there are certain foods that promote inflammation in the body and consequently increase the risk of Colon Cancer n , so experts warn to avoid as much as possible consumption.
Experts classify these foods within a so-called inflammatory diet , which unfortunately, more and more people are still unaware.

Foods that favor colon cancer.

Eating red meat, white bread and sugar-sweetened beverages increases body inflammation and the risk of colon cancer, according to Dr. Edward Giovannucci , the study’s lead researcher and professor of nutrition at the TH Chan School of Public Health.
Previous studies suggest that inflammation in the body also plays a role in the development of colorectal cancer .
It has been shown, for example, that people who regularly take anti-inflammatory medications , such as aspirin , have a lower risk of developing colorectal cancer, compared with patients who do not regularly take these medications.
In this regard, Dr. Nancy Baxter , professor of surgery at the University of Toronto , explains that inflammation is a risk factor for cancer because it is not a normal state of the body.
“We know that chronic inflammation has many negative effects on people and not just on cancer. It is not a natural state for us to have constant inflammation. ”
To reach these conclusions, the researchers gathered data from more than 121,000 people for 25 years.
The participants completed food questionnaires every four years, which helped the researchers to know the inflammation score of each person’s diet.
When reviewing the results, it was found that 2,699 people developed colorectal cancer and when comparing the foods that these people ate with the diet of people who did not develop cancer, the results were surprising.
People who ate more inflammatory foods had up to 37% more risk of developing colon cancer and 70% more likely to develop rectal cancer, compared to those who had a diet low in inflammatory foods.

What are the inflammatory foods?

Dr. Giovannucci points out that processed meat, red meat, organ meat, refined flour and sugary drinks are the foods most related to inflammation that promotes cancer .
In contrast, tea, leafy greens, dark yellow vegetables, whole grains, coffee and fruit juice reduce inflammation.
Also, according to Dr. Wafik El-Deiry , deputy director of Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, a person who avoids alcohol has a greater anti-inflammatory effect.
However, the tests also yielded some strange data.
For example, it could be seen that pizza reduces inflammation, although it is composed of elements that individually increase inflammation and tomatoes were found to cause inflammation.
However, experts explain that these results in no way indicate that tomatoes should not be eaten but pizza if, since in fact everything depends on other factors.
“Given that there are multiple factors, one in itself is not that important in general, but they contribute. If you do everything in the right direction, then you will have a significant impact, “says Giovannucci.
For example, if you like coffee a lot, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory drink , but you add sugar, you will be spoiling its benefits.
Also, Dr. Baxter adds that people at increased risk of colon cancer were those who consumed a large amount of foods that promote inflammation.
