In California, the ocean began to glow

Residents of California’s San Diego have witnessed an unusual natural phenomenon. The 40-kilometer stretch of shore near the city began to glow at night. The coastal waters became bright blue. Natural illumination was captured on the video, reports Cnet.
In the frames below, the so-called biolumenscence is imprinted.
Phytoplankton, special algae nocturnal, are able to secrete the protein luciferin, which, in turn, emits light. In recent years, the number of such plants near San Diego has increased significantly.
