Astragalus Tea To Stimulate The Immune System

Astragalus tea that increases the body’s defenses against disease.
Originally from China, Mongolia and Korea, the astragalus ( Astragalus membranaceus ) has been used for thousands of years to stimulate the immune system. Astragalus is what is known as an adaptogen, which means that it stimulates the adrenal system, which manages the body’s hormonal response to physical, mental or emotional stresses. The root of this plant also contains abundant antioxidants, which help protect cells against the damage of free radiacles.

Astragalus tea has anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial properties, and is used on the skin to treat wounds.

It is used to prevent colds and upper respiratory infections, and to lower the pressure.
Astragalus is a key component in Fu Zheng therapy, a Chinese herbal treatment used to restore immune function in patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. In the United States it is also being studied as a possible treatment for people whose immune systems have been weakened by chemotherapy or radiation. In these studies, astragalus supplements seem to help people recover faster and live longer. Research on the use of astragalus for people with AIDS has produced mixed results.

Astragalus tea is used for the following:

-Adaptogen. It protects the body from stress and illness.
-Colds and the flu. In traditional Chinese medicine, astragalus is used as part of a combination of herbs to prevent or treat colds, although Traditional Chinese Medicine theory holds that, in some cases, it can make colds worse. Evidence in laboratory and animal tests suggests that it can act against viruses such as those that cause colds.
-Diabetes. It seems that astragalus reduces blood sugar. More studies are needed to determine if it can help treat diabetes.
-Fatigue or lack of appetite due to chemotherapy. Some studies suggest that it may help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy. However, more research is needed.
-Heart disease. Several studies suggest that astragalus may act as an antioxidant and help treat heart disease. Other studies suggest that it may help to have lower cholesterol levels.
-Hepatitis. Some studies have used a herbal combination containing Astragalus to treat hepatitis. The results have been mixed.
-Renal disease. Preliminary research suggests that astragalus may help protect the kidneys and help treat kidney disease. More studies are needed.
-Seasonal allergiesOne study found that astragalus can help reduce symptoms in people who have allergic rhinitis or hay fever.
-Cancer. Preliminary studies suggest it may have antitumor effects, specifically against melanoma and leukemia.
