On Thursday, January 18, a small but very active Atlantic storm came
to Europe. The system of low pressure relatively quietly crossed South
Britain, deepened over the North Sea and then, in the maximum intensity
stage, it hit northern France, Benelux and Germany.
The hurricane zone (more than 33 m / s) covered a huge area, fairly patted the infrastructure and led to human casualties. The strongest gusts of wind (57 m / s) were recorded in the mountain town of Broken (Germany). On the plain, the maximum wind speed (38 m / s) is recorded in Gera-Leunits.
French meteorologists called the storm “David”, the German colleagues named him “Frederick”. According to statistics, “Frederick” has become the strongest storm since the hurricane “Cyril” 11 years ago.
