The level of Lake Baikal continues to drop, the lake is less than the critical point by six centimeters, the head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, said.
The threshold is 456 meters on the Pacific scale, but now it is 6 cm lower.
Wilfand noted that the problem has been heard for the last four years, but now the level is even lower than in 2015-2017.

“We forecast by May 1 will be the lowest level,” said the head of the Hydrometeorological Center.
According to him, this will be the lowest level in this century.
In 2014, the water level in Lake Baikal fell by 40 centimeters, reaching a critical point, which led to the drying of wells, the burning of peatlands in Buryatia and the Irkutsk region. There was also a threat to the heat and water supply of cities on the banks of the Angara.
