The car of the future can be controlled by the power of thought
Japanese concern Nissan announced the development of a brain-car type interface (B2V), which will allow drivers to drive a vehicle with the power of thought. A system that reads signals coming from the brain is capable of anticipating actions – for example, it can press the gas pedal or turn before the person does.
The technology is based on the method of electroencephalography (EEG): an electrode cap is put on the driver’s head, which registers the activity of the brain, and the algorithms of artificial intelligence interpret the signals. According to Nissan Vice President Daniel Shillachi, the B2V system will be able to reduce the reaction speed to half a second.
“Most people who think about autonomous driving have a very impersonal vision of the future, when people refuse to control machines,” he said. “B2V technology does the opposite.” In addition, the system is able to anticipate the actions of the driver. It can, for example, turn on the air conditioner or heated seats if it gets hot or cold.
