Almost 40 thousand people were forced to leave their homes because of the threat of the eruption of the Mayon volcano in the Philippines, it follows from the report of the National Council for Emergency Management (NDRRMC).
“As of January 17, a total of 9,480 families / 38939 people were affected (by the action of the volcano – ed.) … and are currently in 30 evacuation centers,” the report said.
On Monday, volcanic caves collapsed on the volcano. Representatives of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Philippines (Phivolcs) said that because of the lava outflow of the city Kamalag and Polangi were covered with a layer of ash. Local authorities abolished classes in the schools of the region, so that they could accommodate evacuees. Emergency medical services are fully prepared for an eruption. Civil aviation aircraft are advised to avoid flights near the volcano.
On Thursday, the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Philippines (Phivolcs) reported that the lava flow moved almost 3 kilometers from the summit crater.
